The Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation (referred to as the Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation) is intended to ensure safe manufacturing/processing, packing and holding of food products for human consumption in the United States. The regulation requires that certain activities must be completed by a “preventive controls qualified individual” who has “successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls”. This course, developed by FSPCA, is the “standardized curriculum” recognized by FDA; successfully completing this course is one way to meet the requirements for a “preventive controls qualified individual.”
Under the Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation, the responsibilities of a “qualified individual” include overseeing: 1) preparation of the Food Safety Plan, 2) validation of the preventive controls, 3) records review and 4) reanalysis of the Food Safety Plan.
Curriculum: Upon completion of this course the students will gain an understanding of the requirements of Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule (21 CFR 117) and how these requirements apply to their organization.
The PCQI for Human Food is offered in two formats:
PCQI (Human Food) Blended course
Like Seafood HACCP (Segments 1 & 2), The PCQI (Human Food) Blended course also has two parts. Part one is the Internet course hosted by the FSPCA. Those who complete the Internet course are eligible to attend the one-day “live” Part Two course taught by SQSA. Part Two is an Instructor-Led course to review the material from Part 1. In Part II course we will address questions that you may have related to the material presented in Part I, and complete exercises applying the knowledge that you gained through the course materials. We offer monthly public classes for the PCQI Part II course.

PCQI Basic Course and Private Course
The PCQI Basic Course provides the entire PCQI curriculum in a 2 day course without the need to complete an online self-taught segment. For operators that require several employees to be trained, it is more cost effective to have the instructor teach a course at your location. If you prefer to have a more personalized training experience, SQSA offers both the PCQI Basic and the PCQI Blended as private courses. The cost of a private course will depend on the location of your operation and the number of students that require training.
